Just to check everyone spotted this, from October 2009:

Better Place has proposed a London pilotproject that would aim to install to service50,000 electric cars by 2015 at a cost of £200 million:

Better Place envisage an infrastructure withbattery exchanges and 90,000 charging points.

The bulk of the cost relates to public charging infrastructure.

The focus on battery exchanges and public charging infrastructure fits with the BetterPlace business model which is targeted at the high mileage driver market (i.e. drivers who cannot just recharge at home).

The Better Place proposal raises questions overthe target market for pilot projects and impliedrequirements for charging infrastructure.Appropriate pilot design will depend on theproportion of high mileage drivers, and thecost of public charging infrastructure.

So what are your predictions when we can buy the first afordable EV car with BP technology in the uk?

I was thinking of just going to denmark and buying on there and tacking it back to scotland. I only travel 40 miles a day so it would be all i need. for long trips i prever the train anyway. so what is the earliest we can do this?

Also from how I understand it the new renault that they are going to use in london can be charged via a normal plug from your garage. will i be able to do the same with the BP cars?

Thanks for the reply Oliver. I suppose they have special filling stations now anyway, so it would be only a case of building stations that could change 3 packs or one big one at a time?!

Hi Moritz,

Switching 2 or 3 battery packs (or more) for one truck isn't a problem.

Hi Guys,
I just joined. I have one question, are there any thoughts to how this is going to work for HGVs and other big trucks, tractors etc? they do use lots of diesel.

regards

Hello!

Nice to find like-minds. I help out an eco-rally that this year is happening 8th June, going from Brighton to London (opposite direction to veteran car rally) and alot of the major car companies are involved, along with some high profile types, an energy company. It is mostly EV's but other technologies are represented too. It been going since 2007 HRH Prince Charles launched it. It is organised because of passion and the deep need to try and accelerate the uptake of sustainable transportation. Vehicles? The current/ not too far away ones that are in the pipline- most of them doing the eco-rally. Just thinking, if an appropriate time and place to meet was required this could be it??! This is a plug but also genuine suggestion and it is free and interesting! There is a conference that day by the low carbon vehicle partnership and exhibition too. It is now called London's green transport day. Boris welcomes it into London, lots of media exposure etc... anyhow contact me if you want more info as should get off soap box...

Hi All. Have you heard of the Good Energy company in the UK? I found out about them today and they offer businesses & individuals electricity from 100% renewable sources. Maybe this company would be a suitable supplier for BP as an electricity provider in the UK when BP set up business here?

Just a suggestion - I don't work for them or anything, so I'm not trying to plug, just trying to share ideas :-)
Kind regards
