How Much Electricity Does It Take To Replace Gasoline?

This was one of the major questions burning in my mind as I was doing research for The Manhattan Project of 2009. If we took every gasoline-powered car, truck, and SUV and replaced their powertrain with an electric powertrain, how much electricity would it take to totally replace gasoline?
